In February 2023, I travelled to Australia with Rosie and my three kids for a holiday and to host some big workout events. It’s a long way to travel so we decided to break it up with a stopover in Singapore.
We had the most incredible time and if you ever get the chance to visit, I would definitely recommend it - it’s a great place to break up the trip down under and it gave us the opportunity to see another amazing part of the world. In this blog post, I’m going to share some of our stopover highlights in the city which is nicknamed the City in Nature.
Beat the jet lag with a run around Marina Bay
One of my best tips for tackling jet lag is to do some exercise when you arrive at a destination - especially after a long flight. When I landed in Singapore, I decided to go on a light run around Marina Bay. It was so nice to run around the bay and the views of the city and Marina Bay Sands Resort are amazing. This area is also close to the awesome Marina Barrage, where I filmed one of my YouTube workouts. Check out how incredible the skyline looks behind me.
Try some food at a Singapore foodie heaven
Trying new food is one of my favourite things about travelling and Singapore is a foodie heaven. They have everything from Michelin star restaurants (an amazing 52 of them at last count) to some of the best street food in the world. But one thing you have to do while you’re in Singapore is visit a hawker centre. These are large food courts found throughout the city where you’ll find local food as well as food from across the world. It is all cooked fresh in front of you and the choice is fantastic, there’s something for everyone.
We visited Lau Pa Sat and Telok Ayer Market for dinner and we got to try some amazing local food from chilli crab to Singapore’s famous chicken rice, but our favourite thing was the satay skewers which is a speciality at Lau Pa Sat. There is a row of cooking stalls dedicated solely to satay, where the delicious skewers are barbecued in front of you. It is known locally as Satay Street.
Visit the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay
Gardens by the Bay is like nowhere I’ve ever been and it’s such an awesome place to visit with the kids. It’s a huge nature park with gardens and two incredible conservatories. But the highlight for us was the Garden Rhapsody music and light show at the Supertree Grove, available every night and free to attend, you don’t want to miss it. I even managed to film a workout under the amazing Supertrees while I was there, which you can try on my YouTube channel.
Take a day trip to Sentosa Island
Sentosa Island is a small island close to the city centre, which you can get to easily by road, cable car, or on foot. It’s packed full of activities and is an awesome place to go with kids. It is like a mini destination in itself and a great place to stay outside of Singapore city centre, for a twin centre holiday. There are loads of activities you can do, from going to a waterpark to ziplining or even visiting Palawan Beach and crossing the rope bridge to the ‘Southernmost Point of Continental Asia’.
Whether it’s a stopover on the way to Australia or a standalone trip, Singapore is an awesome place to visit and if you ever get the chance go check it out!
